An ultra rare Esso gasoline "Put a Tiger in Your Tank" poster by artist LeRoy Olson, Artko Studios, 1969. The ad campaign "Put a Tiger in Your Tank" was invented by Emery Smith in 1959 and used extensively in North America and Europe in the 1960s. Faux tiger tails were seen under gas caps to make it appear there was a tiger in the tank.
Tiger images are still used by Esso's successor, ExxonMobil. This vintage black light poster was designed by LeRoy Olson and features the wording LOVE IS A GAS along with the tiger image. The design is striking and the poster is in good condition for the age.
It epitomizes the pop art style and culture of the era. It is estate fresh from the estate of the owner of an Esso station in the area. Please see all the photos for details of condition.
